Application Gateway for Containers

I'm super excited to share some amazing news with you today: Azure Application Gateway for Containers is now available as a new SKU to the Application Gateway family! 🎉

If you're not familiar with Azure Application Gateway, it's a web traffic load balancer that enables you to manage traffic to your web applications. It offers features like SSL termination, URL-based routing, multi-site hosting, and more. It also integrates with Azure Monitor, Azure Security Center, and Azure Firewall for enhanced visibility and security.

But what if you're running your web applications on containers? How can you leverage the power and flexibility of Azure Application Gateway to optimize your container-based workloads? That's where Azure Application Gateway for Containers comes in!

Azure Application Gateway for Containers is a fully managed service that provides a dedicated Application Gateway instance for your containerized applications. It supports both Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Instances (ACI) as backend pools, and it automatically scales up and down with your container deployments. It also supports end-to-end encryption, custom health probes, and advanced routing rules for your containers.

With Azure Application Gateway for Containers, you can enjoy the following benefits:

  • Simplify your container networking: You don't need to worry about configuring ingress controllers, load balancers, or public IPs for your containers. Azure Application Gateway for Containers handles all the networking complexity for you, and provides a single point of contact for your web traffic.
  • Improve your container performance: You can take advantage of the fast and reliable performance of Azure Application Gateway, which is backed by a 99.95% SLA. You can also optimize your container throughput and latency by using features like connection draining, session affinity, and request timeout.
  • Enhance your container security: You can use features like custom domain names, SSL certificates, and end-to-end encryption to secure your container communication.
  • Monitor your container health: You can easily monitor the health and performance of your containers by using the rich metrics and logs provided by Azure Application Gateway. You can also use custom health probes to define your own health criteria for your containers.

Azure Application Gateway for Containers is a game-changer for container-based web applications. It enables you to simplify, improve, enhance, and monitor your container networking with ease and confidence. It's also very easy to get started: just create an Application Gateway instance with the "Container" SKU, and select your AKS or ACI backend pool. That's it!
